    Making lint

    Greetings all,

I don't mean for this to seem elementary, but I have used the search function and not come up with anything. I was wondering how many of you have had experience in scraping lint and what would be the easiest way to do it with a large group of kids. I am working on an interpretive activity for a school tour and thought this might be an interesting option.

My main concerns are: a) What type of linen is the most suitable, or does it matter? b) Do you need very sharp knives for scraping or can it be done with dull ones?

Any suggestions will be well appreciated.

    All the best,
    Matthew P. Cassady

    Mr. Cassady,

If you go to http://raggedsoldier.com/archive.htm you will find an article regarding lint by Virginia Mescher. If you pick apart the threads making up the fabric then you will avoid the need to scrape (and use knives) at all.

I think that's probably the best way to go. No sooner had I posted my question than I came across that article.

    Thank you for your advice.
