        Nice Dan,
I've been watching for this kit for some time now. It should go nicely with the Sack Coat and Shirt kits of yours I put together.

I was curious if there was any information on the provenance of the trousers they are copied from. I'm specifically curious if they are associated with any particular soldier or unit that it might be possible to determine when SA might have produced or at least shipped them.

        Always looking for more information...

          Troy,

I've sent a note to Don asking him for clarification on the provenance (I saw three pairs that day so keeping the info straight is tough.) He may already be on his way to the Ohio Civil War Show so he may not respond, but if I see him there I will ask him. I kind of figured I ought to present that information off the bat but it's been an uphill struggle just to get the kits done. I'll let everyone know once I hear something!

Re: New Kits! May Bully Buy!

              Troy,

According to Don the trousers came as part of a grouping that included a 9 button NYS jacket with sergeant's stripes on, as well as the famous Saroni contract issue shirt. Unfortunately the previous owner lost the name of the original soldier, so the only thing certain on the provenance is that they were worn by a soldier from New York state.

Re: New Kits! May Bully Buy!

For what's it worth, I have personally seen two pairs of Federal trousers, both in very similar style to the kit demo here, that belonged to a Massachusettes private who survived the war. They were certainly top notch in their homespun beauty! The story behind them might also be of some interest, albeit remote.

As the story goes, it seems this private's mother made one pair for her son and they were liked so much that a pard of his also had a pair made up, by the private's mother, per his request. This friend, however, died in combat before his trousers ever arrived. When they did finally show up, the son kept them on his person for the final eight months that he saw service (though it is my personal belief they were either mailed back home or never sent at all, as they appeared in almost pristine condition, given their age). As far as a time frame is concerned, the initial pair, worn by the son, were marked in ink on the inside pocket, "For Daniel 1862".
