    Re: New Style Caps

    Kathy,
Have you come up with a date of when the term "Canada Hat" was applied to this type of hat? There was a somewhat similar type of hat from earlier periods referred to as the "Canadian Cap". These were constructed of woven fabric and fur trimmed and were especially popular during the Rev War. I was curious if the name was just "stuck" on the CW period hat or if it was something that evolved seperately. It would not surprise me if it was limited to SE Michigan which was populated by the "Mushrat French", hence the "Canadian" connection.

      John,

Interesting observation about the Canadian/SE Michigan connection. I used the term solely as a descriptor as it was referenced in the other thread.

      It's been a fascinating discussion.

              Luke,

I'm awaiting a couple of responses, but the answer is probably yes. I'll post again as soon as I hear back.

              Thanks for asking.

I got mine in the mail today, right now I am wearing as I type. Even wore it to a medical appointment this afternoon. Walked into the place with pride on my face and showing off my new cap.

Just wanted to say thank you for my cap. I received it yesterday and all I can say is that you did a great job on it. It will be my camp cap and in addition I will be wearing it this winter to keep my head warm. :D
