Re: Most Common Chest Size in the hobby

Genetics plays a roll as well. My father is a beanpole. Now in his mid seventies, he is about 6'2" (2+" taller than me) and weighs less than I do. He does not and has not led a sedentary life, but is not what I could call "athletic". Trust me, he's not counting calories!

What can be tough is, when a lot of men hit a certain age, their metabolism slows down. Unless these guys change some habits, they're gonna gain weight.

I'm three months away from 50, and I agree with Mr. Schumacher and in particular, Ian McWherter. It comes down to blaming factors beyond one's control, or taking personal responsibility, and of course it's always more comforting to blame factors outside one's control.

        Mr. Trent,
Possibly one day I will be the picture of self control like you. I am not making excuses for anything or placing blame, if there is any to be placed, anywhere other than with myself. Until such time as I am able to achieve perfection like some of you, I will have to live with the ugly truth that I am a mere mortal.

No need to get huffy. :) I just get tired of being told that people either inevitably gain weight as they get old, or they're naturally thin without any effort. It means that the ones who put in the most effort get the least credit. In my experience, a lot of people seem genuinely surprised that anyone who's thin and middle aged has to actually diet to get that way.

I believe maintaining a reasonable weight requires effort regardless of one's age. It does take more effort, I think, the older you get however. My hat's off to anyone who is willing to put in the required effort. They do deserve credit.
Unless I make it to 118 years old I am past middle age. :)

Exactly the sentiment I was trying to express. Thank you.

Also well said. I think its important for people to realize one's "diet" in regard to lifestyle and "dieting" are two TOTALLY different things.

                Gentlemen,
I am glad your were able to express your sentiments and make your points. I hope you are able to continue in your perfect world.
Aging and it's consequences impact the lifestyle you are able to have. Arthritis does not let me have the lifestyle I did at 32. Open heart surgery for my 54th birthday does not allow me to continue the lifestyle I had at 49. I am only making the point that age, eventually, does have an effect on your lifestyle.
I am also afraid that this thread has gotten far away from it's original intent.

Thanks Pard, I always forget why I shouldn't post on these forums, but your friendly reminder snapped me back to reality.

Chris, I guess my point was not made correctly. I was not offering criticism of you or your remarks. I was remarking on the lack of larger clothing items on display and the reasons for that. I used your reference to hockey players as an attempt at humor.
No offence was intended toward you.
