I usually have to go to a larger chest size to fit my shoulders.

      Don,
This query is directed at us menfolk, right? I put down 42 for me; my wife would be quite leaner ;^)

Good point. It's the same for me. Actual chest measurement: 37". Chest size that I wear so I don't rip out the back of the shoulders: 40.

            Hallo!

Tape measure reads.... 42 1/2 inches.

In my mind, ideally, that would mean a "Size 43."
However, some vendors' Size 42's fits as it should, others are too snug. Some vendors' Size 44 fit, other's are sloppy.
(I have largely given up, to the point of buying only "off the rack" aftr trying the garment on- or going with Size 44's and hoping they are not large.)

                          Don,

Your stuff is great. I'm sorry we haven't been buying enough of it to keep you on an individual order basis.

I'm a federal issue size 2 and order my jackets and pants that way. However, looking at your data, it appears that "they were smaller back then" and reenactors are typically off the federal issue chart. But please do remember that some of us fit the original profile.

                            Don,

My actual chest measurment is 40 inches which equates to a size 42 by most conversion charts I've read and vendors I've delt with.

Though my arms are freakishly longer (almost 2 inches) than a standard size 42 according to Fenny at the Richmond Depot.

I guess Mr. Darwin had a valid point or two,

I would be lying if I said that noone has ever asked me this question before, but for the sake of propriety, I'm going to leave it alone for now. :o
