  • V.M.I. Buttons

The Button Baron presents the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of New Market, Virginia, Virginia Military Institute Civil War Cadet reproduction coat buttons.

The button is an exact restrike, new made by the Waterbury Button Company from an original VMI Cadet Corps, stamped brass, 2- piece button. (D. Evans) This style were the buttons that were sewn on the 5 button grey jackets the VMI Cadets were wearing at the battle. These 30Line size buttons are 24K gold plated over brass.

There were only 10 gross struck at the personal expense of a VMI alumnus, who has the exclusive rights to the new die. Over 40% of the stock went to the Cadet Corps members who made the march from Lexington to New Market and participated in the reenactment this past May, 2014.

We have pictured for comparison an original from our collection with the "D. Evans" backmark.(Left on image of all buttons) and the new restrike (Pictured on right of image with all buttons).

Bottom (On the image with all buttons) , for comparison, is the current regulation VMI button, which is a 1902 U.S. Military pattern style button. Note: These VMI current regulation buttons used by VMI, are not new made but are vintage. They are backmarked "Superior Quality" and are also 24K gold plated over brass.

    Respectfully,
