Comer's Gunworks is introducing a new item for sale. Rottenstone, a finely crushed limestone, was a period product that could be used to clean the rust off firearms polish buttons and shine other metals. In fact, it was used to polish the plates for daguerrotypes since is was the finest abrasive available.

Now you can carry a tin in your knapsack or pocket and get that rust off your rifle barrel in the morning after a wet night or a heavy dew. Just put a little oil or water on a rag, dip it into the rottenstone and polish away. It works really well and is a period application.

You get a 1/2 oz. tin firmly packed which should last you several reenacting seasons. Paypal accepted. Price is $8.00 postage paid

    Re: Rottenstone

I hate to do it but when I took the first batch of tins to the post office, they told me they were packages because of the bulk of the tin, resulting in charging me over $2 more on postage. So, I need to raise the price to $8.00 per tin postage paid.
