Just a quick announcement regarding the newest addition to our already extensive collection of 19th Century Period Minstrel Music. Greetings. Rating it would be difficult, as everyone has different tastes, but I will say that I believe Bob Flesher is one of the best fretless banjo players I've ever heard. He plays very fast and upbeat. As far as the "Wizard Oil" CD, my personal favorites on the CD are "Buffalo Gals", "Ring, Ring de Banjo", "Gwine Back to Dixie", "Old King Crow", and "Oh Susanna!". I definitely feel it's a CD worth having in my collection. Hope this helps, thanks for your interest. Take care.

THE FREE AND ACCEPTED MINSTRELS OF OLD NEW ORLEANS is the only CD I currently have (I have it because I know Ed Simms form my days out in SoCal). To be honest... I never knew there were so many other offerings out there.

Now... I know that Ed and his group may not be the end all ... measuring stick from which other other CD's should be rated (but I realy do like their style and sound), but... if I'm wanting other CD's of similar quality and period sounds which might havbe been heard in the Taverns and home fronts in the late 1850s early 1860s, which CDs would be best to acquire next?

In my opinion, the ones that are most similar to the "Free and Accepted" CD style of playing and sound would be the "Canebrake Minstrels" and "Camp Lincoln String Band".
