  • Postal rate changes affect S&H

A qwik note to let everyone know that the recent postal rate changes greatly impact shipping charges to various sections of the country. Some areas will cost more for S&H than others, the cost being predicated on the distance from my home base, and the size of the parcel. I will do my best to give a fairly accurate S&H charge when you call in orders. Looks like the good ole' US postal service is finally catching up with the rest of the shipping industry like UPS, DHL, FedEx, etc

My website is in the process of having the S&H info to read "plus S&H"

Thank you one and all for understanding

To add to your statement here is a blurb put out by a neighbor concerning the same. Moderators I'm only forwording this non-hobby post in an effort to keep the "free shipping" for sale adds in perspective price wise.

    Hi,

No, I am not going to rant about the recent increase in postal rates. I am, however, going to make you aware of some little known facts that are not being publicized.

A 1oz first class letter went from 39 cents to 41 cents. A 5% increase. Fair and reasonable in my mind.

However, if your 1oz letter is in a 9x12 envelope: The rate changes from 39 cents to 80 cents A 105% increase!

I sell on eBay and send all my "stuff" by priority mail. If you also mail packages often, be aware of the following

A 1 pound Priority mail package went from $4.05 to $4.60 Nearly a 14% increase. However, this package must be less that 1 cubic foot (12x12x12 inches).

If your package is larger than 1 cubic foot, say 12x12x13, the rate goes from $4.05 to a whopping $21.30! A mere 426% increase!

So, as you plan to send out your Christmas gifts or pack you eBay stuff......pick your box carefully!

There are many other "costly features" associated with the recent increase. This, however, should be enough to alert you to significant changes in the postal rates.

Again, it does no good to rant and that is not my intention. I simply want to pass along some little known facts related to the recent postal increase so you won't experience "sticker shock" during you next visit to the post office.

    Jim.
