  • A new jacket and a low introductory price!

This was posted in the Preservation Folder, but for some reason got little interest from the AC community.

Governor's Island is one of the last great untouched historic sites in the north. It played a key roll in the protection of NYC and the Hudson River for centuries and I'd like to see 4,912 members of this forum take the time to protect it.

A few times per year we make the trip via ferry to Governors Island for Living History and other programs. Recently the Park released it's General Management Plan (GMP) and Environmental Statement. The NPS is asking for comments relating to the GMP up until March 18th of 2008. The document can be viewed and commented on by visiting the NPS planning web site at http://parkplanning.nps.gov or by visiting the Governors Island web site at www.nps.gov/gois.

There are a few groups attempting to take away for the current park by making Castle Williams and Fort Jay into outdoor Shakespearean Theaters and another group that wants to make Castle Williams into a stray cat sanctuary for all the stray cats found in NYC.

In addition to the comment period at the web sites listed above, there is be an open house to solicit comments on Wednesday February,27th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Federal Hall National Memorial at 26 Wall Street in NYC.

When making comments please let them know if you think the area the NPS now holds should be expanded to encompass more of the islands historical landmarks and areas in order to save them from future development.

Thank you in advance for looking at the GMP and for making comments.

Re: A new jacket and a low introductory price!

    Thanks Chris,

I heard from someone from the open house today since I could not get there. The Global Theater did not have as many supporters as the NPS anticipated but they did have a presence. Our letters and comments are now more important than ever. They also said that form letter would now be acceptable so I will work on one tonight and post it for anyone that needs one. Everyone please keep in mind that nobody is asking anyone to give a donation of any kind, the NPS is just looking to input and comments from the Living History community. The vitual open house and the comment page is still available this evening until 8 PM and the comment page is still available till march 18th at 11:59 PM. Thank you to everyone that helped out so far by sending in comments. This is a preservation fight we must win and can be won if we all get involved like we have in the past to help other Civil War sites. Thanks again.

Thanks for reading this thread folks.

It took 16 hours for this thread to get as many hits as the preservation thread got in 16 days.

I appreciate that not everyone here is into preservation and I hope no one minds me using the Approved Vendor folder from time to time to bring more attention to preservation efforts.

          Chris:

Thanks for cross posting this. I needed a kick in the pants to get back into the habit of checking the Preservation folder every day as well.

Dang and I was really hoping this was about a good quality federal jacket at a low price, but that's ok, sometimes you have to trick people into reading the Preservation stuff, even though I check that folder pretty often myself. Thanks for the heads up.

Just wondering, any time you might be selling those new jackets at a low introductory price?

Do as Greenfield says and don't ask questions. If you don't, he'll flatten your tent the next time he sees you. He has the power to call up the winds and raze your camp!
