Hello all,
I am considering purchasing a "Boyd & Sons" US belt plate from Missouri Boot and Shoe:
(See, "US Accroutrements" section about half way down the page)
Has anyone seen/read about orginals with a leather backing on them like this? All the beltplates I have seen have the maker's mark stamped directly into the lead. Use of leather over the metal seems like it would be an added step in production and a waste of leather (esp. when producing them by the thousands).
