A while back I posted my desire for a mechanic's hat. Matthew Laird contacted me, said he enjoyed making hats and offered to construct one for me at a ridiculously low price. We discussed it a bit and I said sure.
I mentioned that I wanted it for an interpretive program that I will be doing tomorrow and he said it would be no problem getting it done in time.
As you all know, real life gets in the way of things and he was a bit delayed on the project and was not able to get it mailed out this past Monday as he intended. I told him that if it needed to be sent overnight that I would reimburse him the charges.
So, last night I get home and one of my sons says that somebody was at the house and brought me my hat. I didn't know what they were talking about at first.
To make a long story short - There was no way Matthew was going to get the hat to me in time. None of the major carriers do overnight service to New Madrid - we're too small. So the guy drove from Bentonville, AR to New Madrid MO and hand-delivered the hat! For those of you that may be unfamiliar with the states - Think Bentonville, near Pea Ridge in NW Arkansas near Oklahoma/Kansas. Then think New Madrid, in extreme SE Missouri bootheel on the Mississippi River right across from Kentucky/Tennessee and that will give you an idea of the time involved. He drove all the way across Arkansas to get my hat to me on time.
I was flabbergasted and still am. Thank you Matthew! That was way above and beyond!
And by the way - it's a really nice hat.
