  • Dirty Billy Footwear?

    Hey,
Does anyone know about the quality of the new line of "finely made footwear" that Dirty Billy is now selling:

I've been looking for a pair of mid calf, everyday civilian boots similar to the "farmer boots" but thought I'd see if anyone has seen the work first.

    Thanks,

Could they be the Mad Canadian's handy work? They look like Robert Land's work to me from the pictures...

I was there last weekend and they didn't look like Roberts work. But I didn't ask.

I actually looked at some rather closely at the Chickamauga national event last year. They looked like they were constructed of good materials and were of the correct pattern. However, I have never examined a pair of originals so all I have to compare to are other reproductions. There was a fellow standing there who owned a pair and he said that he loved then but I don't know how much "hard marching" has has done in them. I guess basically I can't tell much more than you already know from pictures....They look good and feel good.

I can't say that I'm favorably impressed by them... and they are clearly not Robert Land's work. What is most striking about the DB shoes is that the heel is massive and carries quite a way forward into the arch of the foot/shoe.

Compare to Robert Land's Congress Shoe:

          ...and Mick Nesseim:

          ...and to the real deal:

I'd advise you to stick with proven makers:
MB&S, Mick Nesseim, Jan Berger, and Robert Land.

I can only vouch for some of his higher boots, of which I have two pairs - they have been excellent in all respects. The workmanship, fit, and materials have proven to be excellent for over two years now, and one pair I wore almost daily for my interpretive job on a farm. I don't know who is making them, but I'd buy again from him.

                    Re: Dirty Billy Footwear?

So I received a new pair of the Dirty Billy"farmer boots" today in the mail...

The boots are well constructed, of correct styling, and overall look great (I will take pictures and post them eventually). Only one problem: too big. I wear a 9.5 US, ordered a 9 (UK sizing ) and had about 1.5" room in the toe. They are willing to exchange but now I have to pay to ship them back, PLUS another $20 shipping to them( a bit high I believe) because I didn't know how UK sizes ran. This could have been prevented if they had taken the time to get foot measurements from me, as the person I talked to on the phone himself was flip-flopping between recommending an 8.5 and a 9.

Bottom line: nice boots (for the initial $225), quick shipping (received in a week) however, ordering process could be improved to insure proper fit the first time...after exchange I will have a $225 pair of boots that I paid about $275* for :(

                    -Clay Pendleton
                    * $225 + $20 s&h + $10 to ship back +another $20 s&h= $275

To clarify I edited my last post...the boots I purchased were from Dirty Billy (the main topic of this thread). Sorry for any confusion.

Saw Dirty Billy at Olustee last weekend and he is clearing out his remaining stock on the boots mentioned. They were $175 marked down from $225.
