I just noticed while looking at the Ben Tart's site that he is now retailing some ready made goods from Lucas Berg. This includes some of his shoes and caps.
Yeah I just bought a cap pouch from him not to long ago. Really great pouch, on par with any of the other top leather workers on this forum. Looks just like the original he copied. I believe he mostly makes CS stuff. Also his shoes are some of the best, and a good deal as well!
Ben’s been carrying Berg’s stuff for a while now, he had a bunch of stuff at remembrance day last year and his stuff was at the depot as well when Ben was involved with the shop. The stuff didn’t say it was made by Lucas but if you know his work you knew right away who made it. I wonder how fast it sells out now that Lukie’s name is tied to it, names sell.

Lucas Berg. Now there's a "name" from the past. (At least for me.) Last I saw of him was at Lookout Mountain when we portrayed the 96th Illinois Infantry. Can't remember the year though. Now THAT was a good time. Granted, this posting now becomes a rambling, but there were a lot of great guys whom I met on that occasion for the first time that I haven't/or rarely have seen since then. That was my first experience with Steve Evans, Brent Brumagin, Joe Blunt, and many others. Which begs the question; What happened to Lucas? I've heard rumors but nothing specific. Lucas ALWAYS had a great impression. Whether he was doing Johnny or Fed; he was always "spot-on"! In fact, he was the first guy I ever saw tuck a 4 button blouse into his trousers; based on an original image.
Chris...1997? Yeah, that sounds about right. Was an intense march up "Look-Out"
Mountain and hosted a bunch of excellent fellars; Paul McKee, Frank Aufmuth, Mike Bub, Hodge, and a slew of other fellars. Good memories all!

This was also before forums, chat rooms, event specific websites and efubar. We assembled all these great guys via telephone, newsletters and word of mouth.
1997 sounds right, I was there and in that image of all of us on the point at the top of ol' Lookout. That was a great time, a bunch of us crashed on the floor of the basement of the Cravens House, which was just a little warmer than being outside. It's true what you said Chris, that's back when we used to get LETTERS in the mail about events! Some of the youngsters today couldn't make it back then.

Pappy Simmons was with us that weekend. He was a WWII vet and trudged up that mountain like it was a walk in the park. When he came across two teenage brothers winded and tired sitting on a log, he said "suck it up", pushed the boys out of the way and kept on going. It's pretty bad when a 70+ year old vet tells a teenager to "suck it up" as he marches up a 1600+ foot mountain side.

Actually, fellahs, it was 1996! I remember this, as it was the first time I'd been to the site, and I was immediately sold; I worked there the following summer as a seasonal while still in high school!
How are Rick and his dad, Chris? I remember Pap Simmons very well; he was very kind, and helped care for me when I got sick at Gettysburg in 1995...

I still think it was 1997.
Simmons boys are all well.
John, I remember you at that event. You took a flight out to the event (I think to ATL), then hitched a ride in uniform to the event site. That was hardcore for a teenage kid.
