          Gents

I got my "author's copies" today and looking through the book with a critical eye the material is laid out in a satisfactory manner and reads well. I had forgotten some of what was in there in the years since it was first written. The two "Suppliers" books were published somewhat out of order with British Arms & Accoutrements being largely written after the first versions of Tait & SIC & Co. In between, I did a 2nd Edition of The Civil War Musket and then put together The Unfinished Fight: Essays on Confederate Material Culture (Vol I and II) for The Watchdog. In other words, Suppliers II was written well before but published after Suppliers I, with quite some time elapsed in the interim. It has been so long it felt like I was just reading the material for the first time.

Point being: I feel comfortable saying that those who choose to pick it up will most likely be pleased with it, if you have an interest in the subject matter. It was a labor of love for David Burt, who began much of the baseline research with his former writing partner John Hopper, who passed away years ago. In fact, David dedicates the book to John Hopper, while I did not give that matter as much thought and dedicated the book to "The War Department," an inside joke...it is a nickname for my wife.

And if for some reason the work is not to your liking, you can take solace in knowing that since my share of the royalties goes to battlefield preservation, you are aiding a worthwhile cause near and dear to most of us.
