    Guys,
Trying to track down some information on New York State jackets being used in the west in 63. I am standing by the fact that they were pretty much phased out, but I want some proof one way or another,

    Pat,

Photo's of the 154th NY show them in NYS jackets into late 63' when they were shipped out west. Not western however, the 86th NY clothing vouchers show them still being issued them in the summer (june or july) of 63', and another issue according to General Orders to Wards brigade in Sept. to draw jackets from their states, if such jackets are available. Anyhow not a whole lot of info but, hope this is of some use.

      Re: NY state jackets

Lt. Col. Vinton, Deputy QM here in NYC in April of 1864 called for a contract for "1000 Uniform Jackets of the New York State pattern, but with the United States Infantry Button".

      Now, that said:

      A. I can't confirm if the contract was filled.
      B. IF it was, who can say where the 1000 jackets ended up.

I don't know how this helps a western use of the NYSJ - however it does help in showing that the NYSJ was still around into the 'late' war period.

        Sir,

I have records of members of the 124th New York purchasing NYS jackets in late 1864. One of them purchasing his jacket from a sutler. If sutlers are selling them in 1864 i am sure that they could have made their way out west.

        Respectfully,
