  • Need help finding a photo

I've been looking for an on-line image of the famous "Officers Three" photo that was taken (I believe) at, or near, Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. It is of three Federal officers that basically look like privates with swords.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

    Pat,
Google, Ohio in the civil war, then go to their entry on the 105th Ohio, the picture is down near the bottom of the page.

        Hi,

That is one cool picture of Federal officers!!!!!! They kind of look like what I think Federal " Bummers" looked like.

Taken in August 1863 -- just at the onset of the Chickamauga Campaign. One of my all time favorites. Goes great with the recently posted image of the VERY young group of Union infantrymen taken during the Chickamauga Campaign.

And don't forget that the man on the far left is Albion Tourgee -- he was the plantiff's lawyer in the Plessy v. Ferguson case. A consistent abolitionist from the war through the onset of Jim Crow.

Is there a larger version of this one anywhere, by chance? I searched Google images, Yahoo images, both with about 10 different search wordings and came up with nothing. this is a very interesting image and I'd love to learn more from it. It looks like the holsters on the two flanking officers were either made without flaps or had them cut off- I can't tell with the image so small.:(

Re: Need help finding a photo

Agreed that this image is amazing and so important. Also, it is nice to note that Mr White, Black, and Brown know a member of Albion Tourgee's family.
Mr Black, can you add the link to the additional photo to which you referred? Thank you, sir.

There is a larger version published in Echoes of Battle: The Struggle for Chattanooga published by Rick Baumgartner and Larry Strayer.
