Re: Massive Todd Watts Enfield Defarb!!!

Just received my PH musket back from BRI after Todd Watts defarbed it. Nice job, I had Todd fit on a Colt heavy hammer along with Palmer bands from the Rifle Shoppe. I had it made into an LA Co 1862. Thanks again Todd for the help with all of my questions and the screw up with DGW over the hammer. I can highly recommend Todd and his work for any one wanting to defarb an Enfield.

For anyone interested in the Barnett De farb, the booklet on the Barnett firm called "The Civil War Musket:JE Barnett & Sons" is available now through Blockade runner.

It tells the history of the company and its dealings with the Confederacy. It is 35pp, and is inexpensively priced at $6.95. Written by myself and Craig Barry, there are articles on the "bright" Enfield, and musket slings and more.

On the subject of the "Barnett". My Enfield Barnett de Farb arrived from Todd, and it is a wonderful copy. I highly recommend this de farb, and is a great addition to Todd's LACo, and Birmingham Enfield's.

Got a copy of Mr Burt's book on the Barnett Enfield. This is an interesting read for any one who want more information on the Barnett contract of Enfields during the American Civil War.

Could the authors please reply if there will be forthcoming booklets on other contractors?

My Todd Watts Barnett arrived on Christmas Eve. It is one of the nicest
muskets I have seen. I also got the pamphlet on the Barnetts that Craig Barry wrote. It is a must have if you are into Barnetts. It makes owning the Barnett that much more interesting, knowing the history. I highly recommend both.

Yes...monographs (pamphlets) on London Gunmakers, and another on Birmingham Gunmakers are both in pre-publication. The first printing of the Barnett pamphlets are sold out, but the second printing is probably done by now so they can be ordered from BRI.

In addition, Todd Watts is working on a cone-in-barrel flintlock conversion using my flintie as a guinea pig...this should be a nice alternative to the 1842s. Todd is bitching about how much work it is, but he always does that. And the Mississippi Rifles will be coming out this Spring.

Have I mentioned that my shop is un-heated? My boiled linseed oil is like molasses and took 2 days to dry on the last stock.

I ordered a defarbed euroarms from Todd last year along with the salter bayonet and they are truly works of art. No appearance at all of the former markings, great work on the bluing, bands, stamps, all markings on the barrel, hammer, rammer, butt plate, etc, and all the other little details even where you can't see them anyhow, they're there. Everyone that sees it always does a double take. I recommended him to all my pards and am looking forward to seeing more work from him in the future.

                    To All!

I would have started a "Todd Watts appreciation" thread but I figured that might cause a "crash" on the server!

I just got my Euroarms Enfield back from Mr. Watts today (Shuyler, Hartley & Graham version burnished bright), and I am amazed at what this man did to this musket! The piece was purchased used in the late 80's by my late grandfather and was in very rough shape after many years of use and abuse. I feared the gun "all but done" and decided to send it in to Todd. What I got back was practically a brand new Enfield!

The look, feel, and balance of the gun is amazing and I could not be happier with the finished product. The attention to detail (specks of bluing left in the areas where a soldier would not have been able to get to, stamps on the stock, barrell, etc...) is top notch. I feel slightly guilty as the money I paid does not seem like enough for what I got in return.

I'm still not convinced that BR didn't make a mistake and send me a brand new weapon! :) I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning!

Had some other issues with the lock and a "shelter half" stuck in the bore; all of which were taken care of at no extra charge.

Thanks to Mr. Watts for a "bully" job!

I will add some pictures as soon as I get the opportunity...

Re: Massive Todd Watts Enfield Defarb!!!

I have made up my mind about getting one of Tom's defarbbed Armisports, but I had a question not answered when reading this thread. I would love to use it for black powder hunting as well as reenacting and was wondering what y'all thought of the accuracy of it. Have any of y'all done any target practice with one of these?

I would take investment advice from Bernie Maddox before I took hunting advice from Todd Watts.

                              Jason,

I have two questions for you,
Which Armi Sport model do you have?
What game do you wish to hunt?
I have experience in both areas and might be able to offer you suggestions. And e-mail might be best way to communicate.
