  • M1842 Springfield Musket

    Hi,

Where is the best place to buy a new M1842 Springfield Musket de-farbed. I have looked through many vendors, but have been unable to find one that sells this item. As of right now I am not looking for a used one, so please do not make any offers. Any information would be helpful. Thank You.

      Andrew,

I checked the list of approved vendors for a gunsmith named John Zimmerman. He did not appear on the list. Perhaps some of the approved carries his guns. He sells Model 1842 Springfields smooth bore or rifled. He also does first class defarb work. Search him out if you don't get any better leads.

          Hallo!

          Just to add...

Lodgewood and James River Armory also offer "defarbed" M1842's.

I would also urge you to use the SEARCH function to read the thread discussions on Mr. Zimmerman's work, and be warned that the quality of workmanship has been shown to run a range of quality form excellent to questionable- so I advise buying one that you have in your hands rather than ordering sight-unseen.

Also I have seen several M1842's being sold as "Palmetto Armory" M1842's where ONLY the lockplate has been replaced (without the correct brass buttplate, bands, and trigger guard).
