    Re: .69 Caliber Enfield?

The bayonet is 21 inches long. 18 inch blade. I tried to get a picture of the marking but it didn't come out. Stamped markings are as follows: (moving towards the socket) Broadhead arrow, WD, crown, E, 2. I did attach an over-all picture of the bayonet but I doubt it helps much.

      Re: .69 Caliber Enfield?

      Gents,

I was going through Footnote this evening when I found a list of ordnance stores turned over to Col. R.C. Hill of the 48th North Carolina on May 6th 1862, this was the initial outfitting of the 48th with arms:

      220 Enfield Rifles, complete
350 British Muskets, complete (note: could be 550 not 350)
9000 Musket Ball cartridges cal .69 with caps
8000 Buck & Ball cartridges with caps
9000 Enfield Rifle cartridges with caps
2000 Rifle Musket cartridges cal .58 with caps
      68 Knapsacks with Straps
      2 Bullet molds

So am I seeing imported British Muskets in cal .69?
