I'm looking at a voucher from Marshall, Texas, items purchased June 7, 1862, signed by A. M. Truit, AQM and John A. Harris, ACS. Among the ovens, frying pans, pot hooks, iron spoons, water kegs, wagon whips, nails, and breast chains are "12 California water buckets." Can anyone define that, please? A quick google didn't help me.
