William C. Hall was a member of the 14th Independent Battery Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery. He began training at Camp Wade near Cleveland, Ohio on Sept. 10, 1861, was transferred to Camp Dennison, and was injured at the Battle of Shiloh. William had lingered for one month and two days after the Battle of Pittsburg Landing. William was interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, in Section 64, Grave number 10869. He was 32 years old.
Partial transcript of letter (need to dig out the letter):
Augusta's second letter to William, dated Sept. 25th:
My Dear William,
…I would like to know how you get along a soldiering. You must write and let me know if you want anything. I will try and get it for you…
I have made you a wallet to carry … your thread and needles in. Put your things in it and the needles as the pockets are a piece of your mother’s dress…
I hope you can come home before you go. Do if you can.
