Hi fellas,
I don't know if any one is interested, but I had a German silver Maryland bottony cross hand made by a locale jeweler/goldsmith.He makes a more generic cross made from silver, brass or even gold.He usually sells them through S&S Sutler of Gettysburg.
He was able to make a exact replica as shown in Daniel Hartzler's book, A Band of Brothers, pg. 207. Mr. Schilling is a really good guy who has made other Civil War pins worn of Federal and confederate uniforms. He also offers modern or authentic attatchment devices. He makes and designs jewelery for a living, so he is very professional in the quality of his work.
A small item such as pins adds an extra pinch of authenticity, when done correctly. Marylanders took great pride in their small battalion. As a result many wore several types of crosses to show thier distiniction from other units. If any one would want Mr. Schillings info, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
A. Brent Conner
