  • Oil-Cloth Kepi

    Hi,

Well I looked through many posts here on the fourm and just can't seem to find much on Confederates and oil-cloth cap covers.

Now I know there are a few pictures shown in the EOG Book and in the Johnny Reb " Book of the Confed" that show the Kepi and the cover !

But : How common was it to see Confed's wearing the kepi with a Oil-cloth cover?

I have to in my personal care, one from: N************** & one from D-Billy!
Both seem to fit my CS Kepis very well.

I have seen many pictures of the Fedral Soldier and Officer in the field wearing the oil-cloth cap covers. But not any of Cs Infantry, only personal photos are shown with the cap covers on.

But i have to say one thing there HOT~~~~~~ During the Summer !!!:angry_smi

Anyways i just was wanting to see if anyone had any info on this?

    Many Thanks

Contact either Kiev Thomasson or Joe Blunt, they have been studying the issuance of 'Glazed Kepis' by Confederates.

        Re: Oil-Cloth Kepi

I made a couple painted cloth Kepi covers for my Union caps, but discovered that they also work well for my Confederate caps too. At a 100 bucks a pop for well made caps, that one good rainstorm can trash, they are a sound investment. Very easy to make too.

          Hey,

Got that right,(: thats Y"" I invested in two of them!

I think they will work for just about any impression your looking into doing! I like the All painted cap its-self.

Not many people wear or even use the Cap covers! And like i said in the first post there seen in countless pictures and personal photos both fedral and cornfed.

            Re: Oil-Cloth Kepi

I know this is quite an old post but if Uncle Frank or anyone else out there has a pattern for making an oilcloth kepi cover please send me a pm or reply. I would love to make one for my kepi but I want a period pattern.
