Quarermaster Records of the 37th Mississippi Infantry

  • Quarermaster Records of the 37th Mississippi Infantry

    Gents,

    Time again for more QM records.

    This time we have the 37th Mississippi Infantry. This Regiment was raised in the summer of 1862 and Fought at Iuka and Corinth. Captured at Vicksburg, it was exchanged and later fought as the only Mississippi regiment in the Cantey/Walthall Division of Polk's Corps. This is only a partial list of what I have, but I will post more later.

    Will,

    Good stuff. The issue of a spider intrigues me. I wonder if there is an extant spider with a documented Civil war provenance? Pot with legs or skillet with legs?

    You need to get back to DC and do some digging. How about the 15th Mississippi this time? :)

      Spiders show up alot in C.S. QM documents, I've also seen them issued to every regiment in the Tramp Brigade (17th, 18th, 22nd, 23rd, 26th SC) But I have never seen one at an event before. I think there might be one in the CS Echos of Glory, I'll have to look when I get home.

        Here is some ordnance information, from the CSR of Lt. C.N. Featherston Ordnance Officer:

        January 12th 1864- Issued to Col. O.S. Holland, at Enterprise Mississippi (this was the parole camp for most of the captured Vicksburg regiments)

            Numerous examples of spiders can be found in books / references to the blockade runner Modern Greece that was sunk during the war and excavated back in the 70s if I re-call correctly.
