    In one of the books I have read, I believe on the 56th Massachusetts, one of the company officers looking for one of the field officers while in line of battle. He found him well behind the lines, sitting at a table eating breakfast.

    Reading too many books over too many years to keep straight.

      Michael,
      This is exactly the information that I originally sought by posing the question. I realise that baggage shrank and can now assemble a compact mess kit to feed my company officers.
      How nice that the Bully buy is Tin ware.
      I had better get on it as I am sure that stock is limited.
