Wondering what the low down is on the average vest worn by the typical infantryman. Were they issued? (didn't think so). Percentage of vests worn from home?

And, IMHO...
Whether private purchase or sent from home, there is no way to count or capture numbers to be able to base any kind of "percentage" on.
Both "military" and "civilian" styles appear in a few Period images, however, for men wearing buttoned closed coats, blouses, and jackets it is problematic to speculate.
The men one sees in Period images wearing vests, are men one sees in Period images wearing vests.
