It would seem that the 1st MN might have been issued both black and dark blue trowsers.
In "No More Gallant A Deed", James Wright, 1st Sgt. Co. F 1st MN, described the trowsers as dark blue.
In the History of the First Minnesota, written in 1916, the uniform is described with black trowsers.
The state bought this clothing (red shirt, black/dark blue trowsers, black hats) from civillian suppliers who were providing this clothing to lumber companies and also to suttlers selling to Indians.
