Your simple set of questions is incredibily broad. You might want to narrow it down a bit by time and place for each of the units. Further, you might indicate what information you have already found and in what places.
I am assuming your interest in these batteries lies in their involvement with Seymour's 1864 Florida Expedition.
The best place to start looking for information on uniforms for the regular batteries is the U.S. Regulations, http://www.usregulars.com/reguni0.html#ARTICLE. Most of the Regular batteries were armed and equiped for service as field artillery during the war. Photographic evidence suggests, however, that troops in Battery B, 1st Artillery wore dark blue trousers in '63- 64 while serving in South Carolina and possibly in Florida.
The 3rd Rhode Island (Heavy) Artillery was somewhat unique as it was a full volunteer artillery regiment. Companies A and C were armed and equiped as light batteries. The regiment was originally raised as an infantry regiment and issued grey state uniforms. In early 1862 the 3rd Rhode Island was redesignated as an artillery regiment (adding two more companies) and issued regulation U.S. artillery uniforms.
Best bet is mounted service jacket (trimmed in scarlet) or fatigue blouse, forage cap and sky blue trousers.
James, that is correct. We were trying to adapt existing uniforms we have for Olustee as I privately emailed you yesterday. I just found last night about blue trousers, which is interesting since several of us also have those for Confederate Marine impression. I thought the grey pants was alos interesting for earlier.
