  • Columbus Depot Trim Question

Can somebody tell me who makes the most accurate (both in color and cloth)Columbus Depot indigo blue trim? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears that the survivng jacket examples all have the same shade/color of blue on them?

    Thanks,
    Weldon Svoboda

Any one of the approved vendors here do an outstanding job. I myself own a Dan Wambaugh version that I love.

The search function is an amazing tool. Another suggestion is to view the similar threads box at the bottom of this page. Lots of talks about trim can be found there.

I do not where in Texas you live, but you can take a close look at my original CD jacket here in Waco.

Mr Walker: You, sir, are one of the classiest gentlemen around here.

TexasPard: if you get the chance to look at one, you will see the basic fabric for trimming them all. It is amazing how similar they are when little else seems to match so closely between even two others.

            Silas
When did it become against the rules to ask a question on the forum? In this hobby, at least the one I'm in, research changes about every six months, at least when considering fabric. For example, some of the AC vendors have stuff that's too dark and some have stuff that's too light compared to the originals I have seen. This blanket statement that everything the AC vendors makes is spot on is just simply not true. A lot of the lacking area in some repops now is in fact the trim, which could have spawned this discussion. Due in large part to not being able to find the right weight and finish of the material to dye. And then enters the process of dying the indigo, and well I won't go into that....guess I better use the almight all knowing search function.

Sorry. I tend to get crankier than usual when I'm in trial. The poster's first post on this forum is really, really basic. A modicum of self help would have dropped him into several quality threads on this forum - the most recent post on one of them was made within the last two weeks : http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/...ad.php?t=25783

Further, the exact same question was asked in another thread here within the last two years : http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/...ad.php?t=15709 and back in 2004 : http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/...ead.php?t=5691

As noted in the forum FAQ :

Use the Search function before asking!

We like good questions.. repetitive questions however tend to make us want to kill the neighbor's cat. Once you've been around these forums for awhile, you'll know what I mean. We have a real fine search function here. We spent good money to make sure it's the best search function available. Please give it a whirl and you might be surprised how many topics and in what depth a particular subject that you might have interest in has been addressed, readdressed, and so on. If you find a thread that pertains to your question, read it through... and if you need more info, and the search engine doesnt turn anything else up, by all means.. ask! This is standard message board ettiquette... nothing particular to hardcores or reenacting.
So, yeah, I guess I ate the neighbor's cat.

                Re: Columbus Depot Trim Question

Thank you for the responses. For the record, I did run a search, and none of the threads that popped up completely answered my question, and I found that particular reply a little condescending. Nevertheless, I think that Coastal Trash’s comment are in line with what I am searching for. After looking at the photos of the originals on-line, It appears to me that they all have the same color/shade of blue (or real close) and when I look at the reproductions, there appears to be visible variations, it seems that some vendors make darker trim and some produce a lighter trim. Has anyone ever done a side-by-side comparison with some of the reproduction trim to any of the originals? If so, what were your observations? I am wanting to acquire a CD jacket with the most accurate trim, and I am looking for insight. Mr. Joe Walker, I live about an hour and a half away from you, and I would be honored to come to Waco and view your original and visit with you.

                Thanks,
                Weldon Svoboda

                  Re: Columbus Depot Trim Question

I have cloth for the body of the Columbus Depot I wish to make, but need the trim. Does anyone know if any approved vendor is willing to sell just the trim material? Most are of course using their material to construct their jacket. I wish to buy some quality trim material.
