To all,
A small group of us will be attending 145th Bentonville this March and due to the distance we have to travel and in the course of our discussions we've agreed to go as an 10 man "flying column" to spread out any extra equipment. We have a large variety of period or repro shovels, picks, axes and hatchets and I drew the short straw and have to carry the shovel. It is uncomfortable to say the least not to mention awkward. My question is this: Does anyone have any pictures or excerpts of soldiers field modifying this type gear for ease of carry? Would it be un-authentic to cut half the length off?
I appreciate any help on the matter.
