I was trying to see if this filter canteen was met this group's criteria for authenticity; of for that matter did anything on the market? Thanks for the reply

Since you are seeking opinions/ advice you really need to post pictures on this forum. You will receive alot more input by putting forth a little more effort.

Dave, I hate to show my ignorance but I could not figure out how to upload picture to this site and looking at other posts I assumed it could not be done. So now you have two questions before you. I would appreciate your and other’s two cents. Thanks

Who made the filter canteen (vendor) and what type is it? Do you have an Echoes of Glory set or Lord's Encyclopedia? Those might also help.

Re: Need Input on Filter Canteen

What is it bout' the filter canteen ?

                    Perceived coolness ?

More of the in-the-know crowd will be more put off with its inappropriateness for the majority of P/E/C scenarios than wow'd by the kewlness of the canteen.

A perceived need or desire for the functionality thereof ?

Outside of the largest particulate matter, the "filter" doesn't afford much biological protection from the "yuck" found in natural water sources, especially in terms of microorganisms and / or pathogens.

I understand but have my reasons. Can't find who made it is not like a Bartholomae or the one in "Echoes of Glory" but Hot Dip Tin say it is just like what they make, just don't know if it is dipped. Thanks anyway.

                        Gary,

It is usually better to research an item of kit prior to purchasing it. Look for accurate materials/method and construction. This eliminates the problem of having an item and trying to make it fit ones impression/scenario. John Stillwagon said it best in a post I never forgot: "It is better to know what makes an item correct than it is to know who makes a correct item." Best of luck with your canteen.

If it is the one in your album on your profile, it looks like one of George's canteens.

Re: Need Input on Filter Canteen

I have been on HotDipTin's website and don't see a filter canteen. I see two tin canteens that are drum patterns.

Does the canteen in question look like this:

This one is sold by Milk Creek Mercantile. The work is average and the tin is not as heavy a gauge as better tinsmiths might use.

                            Does that help?

No it is a drum pattern.
