  • Cartrige box wear

    Hello,
I came across a post on this forum pertaining to soldiers wearing their cartrige box using both the belt loops and the shoulder belt at the same time. This makes sense to distribute weight more evenly, but does anyone know of any actual references or pictures of soldiers doing this? Generally I have only seen it worn one way or the other.

I have done a lot of searching using the search function, but as of now I have come up empty handed. I've only found lengthy debates over belt loops vs. shoulder belt.

    Thanks,

Hmm, I'm certain this was discussed years ago, and I'm also certain there was amples evidence for this practice, at least within the western federal armies, and I'm sure more than a few in the east. Try the search again. I know my research has shown this, but I've lost the file.

It certainly makes sense as it supports the waist belt and its various items and keeps the box and sling in place. It would certainly restrict how much you could move the box around during combat however. Perhaps it was a marching configuration? I have not seen it mentioned specifically. Anyone know of a period reference to this practice?

I found an old thread where this was discussed.
