  • SA Federal Overcoats

I am looking for detailed photos of SA Federal overcoats (I am also interested in photos of other depot overcoats, but I would prefer photos of SA). I have seen many of the ones that have been posted on the AC in earlier threads, but wanted to see if there are any more out there. Any photos of these overcoats would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    All the best,

    Andrew

What are the details you're looking to see? Buttonholes? Topstitching? I'll have to dig through my files... I might have something in there.

I am looking for some photos of buttonholes, collar (where the collar and cape attach at the front of the coat), topstitching, and buttonhole facing (cape and body). Thanks for any help.

            Re: SA Federal Overcoats

I don't have any detailed photos that I can find that would be helpful. However, I would make this recommendation:

There is nothing that compares to viewing original garments. I would try to find a museum in your area (I know you split your time between two states) and see if you can get some "white glove time" with an original. I know there are a number of members of this board, including museum professionals, down in FL. I'm sure Missouri has some good museum resources, as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to see if I can find a place that has one of these overcoats. Thanks again.

                Re: SA Federal Overcoats

Don't know if it's still there but the Horse Soldier had the SA overcoat from the John Henry auction with the added slash pockets in the shop for months. They where more then happy to pull it out of the case and let us photograph it and measure it up till our hearts where content, spent the good part of a morning pawing over the coat. If you're serious about seeing an original this may be an avenue to take, not to mention they don't make you wear white gloves at the shop.
