The Richmond factory was outside of Augusta, Georgia. The area had been known for it's cloth production since the American Revolution.
My question is has any examples of this cloth been found in uniforms? There is a reference in the Savannah Quartermaster report about a "Light Grey jeans wool uniform from the Richmond factory" in the Savannah warehouse. They hd not issed the uniforms out because the weight of the wool was thinner than the English imported wool. The quartermaster wrote the uniforms were good for the hot and warm seasons, but could not be used in the winter season.
There was another lighter grey uniform, almost white in color, that was a lighter weight jeanswool than the above uniform. It was to be issued as a last resort.
The quartermaster reports came out of the National Archieves. Department of SC, Ga and Florida records.
So, any ideas what the fabric on the uniforms looked like?

Ken Myers
