  • 36th Illinois Infantry...

All, I'm looking for information on the 36th Illinois Infantry, Company A and B.They were raised as cavalry within an infantry regiment. They were also known as...(A: Hamilton's Escort, Jenks' Cavalry Company or Dragoons, Rosecrans' Escort, & Willis' Cavalry Company; B: Davis' Escort, Sherer's Cavalry Company or Dragoons, & Smith's Cavalry Company)
I've information on what they were armed with, but looking for obscure diaries, accounts, uniform issues or even better ID'ed images... I'm sure some of you Sucker lovers (Pillers) out there have them, share... Thanks, TEH

    Re: 36th Illinois Infantry...

    Zack,
Just call me. Sending you my number. http://www.B36thIllinois.org

A and B cavalry companies are an interesting to say the least. They formed with 12 companies, 10 infantry, but of the remaining two; one was destined to be cav, but the other was suppose to be artillery. It would have been something like the 36th IL Legion. They never got the guns, so they made the other into another cav.

Yeah, just give me a call. You've opened something I can't even begin to type out or give out my research in any easy way.
