Am trying to replicate the accoutrements which might have been issued to NC cavalry units at the Richmond Depot in May 1862 on their way to Gettysburg. I have a 58 cal cartridge box which does not have a strap and wondered if a leather or canvas strap would be most consistent with those issued at the RD during that period. Thanks in advance.
