I have always wondered a few things about the confederate "uniforms".
1. Is it just me, or is the image of a confederate without a uniform sometimes underplayed? I dont mean a whole field full of confederates in civilian frock coats, but I have seen several period photographs of confederate soldiers (especially prisoners, im not sure why) wearing civilian clothing.
2. would it be inaccurate to wear a union officers frock coat, with no insignia whatsoever, in a confederate impression? I picked a very dusty, faded old officers frock (w/out the light blue trim) at a local gunshow for very cheap so i could use it on the cold nights, not thinking it would be useful in the field, but after looking at it i realized it was the most accurate piece of clothing i have, and i wondered if i did a confederate impression, if it would be innacurate?
this is the type of jacket i am refering to; http://www.civilwarantiqueshop.com/hg4.htm
and if you look to the far right in this picture, you will see the confederate "uniform" i am referring to.
