Period paint

Hello,

I imagine this has been discussed already in a previous thread, but could not easily find it. Maybe someone knows and can post a link.

Anyway, I'm looking for a source of period paint or recipe to use on silk for a flag. It is not very detailed, and just words in black. Perhaps someone here has went down this road before.
