Greetings!
I was doing some research to enhance my Missouri State Guard impression when I came across this photograph.
If you take a look at the soldier on the right, and more specifically his headware, you notice there is a ruffle (Having a hard time describing it) on it.
Could this be a ribbon or a feather? Or more specifically, a cockade?
And, two kill two birds with one stone, what is the style of the hat the soldier on the left is wearing? At first glance it looks to me to be a mechanic's cap, but at closer scrutiny, it doesn't seem to be a mechanic's cap after all.
