I’ve been reading this Forum for months, and the amount of information here in my opinion priceless. I haven’t started a Post in fear that it wouldn’t live up to the standards of others and because I’ve just been reading so much. Now I think I’m ready for my first Forum Post which I hope has been but in the right “Directory”. If not, feel free to move it. I certainly don’t want to “wear out my welcome”, but I feel this question is appropriate.
I have searched and searched to find an answer to this, but without any results. When the war started, basically all equipment available was used, even gear from the Mexican War. I have read about the “Kibler” knapsack, carried by James Kibler of the 10th VA. This style knapsack is 1 of 4 that I have found online, but yet the only one carried by a soldier of the Confederacy. Why is it that we don’t see it, or is it allowed most of the time, in the Federal ranks? I have listed the websites that I have found this “Mexican War variant” knapsack.
&
Now yes I know one of them is “rubberized”, but the pattern is the same. Is there something I’m missing, or should the “Mexican War variant” knapsack be better represented in Federal ranks?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. If you want to see the other knapsacks from this auction, click here:
