  • Atzerodt hat

I was looking at some photos of the conspirators involved in the Lincoln assassination and I couldn't help but wonder what type of hat George Atzerodt is wearing. I am sure it is something simple, but I just thought I'd ask a community of people more learned than myself.

    Respectfully,
    Matt Wood

You mean this pic? Looks to me to be a low-crown bowler that is REALLY beat-up.

Yeah that is the one. So a low crown, eh? Alright then.

Judging by the looks of it from the picture, I'd say it was. No problem... ;)

          Hallo!

Makes for an interesting discussion on the fashion trend between "American bowlers" and "British derbies."

I had always thought the the curved brim would have been quite a fashion statment for a man of Atzerodt's "socio- economic" class in 1865. ;) :)
