Hello everyone,
I have a couple questions here and I hope this hasn't been discussed before. A while back a fellow re-enactor once told me that soldiers would commonly form social groups with in their company and that they would have some sort of decoration or insignia that went along with their groups name or purpose. Examples he gave me were a metal pin or cloth patch on a jacket, a charm on a pocket watch chain, and so on.
My question being is this is true and documented? If so does anyone have any examples or pictures of soldiers with such decor? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!
