  • Mexican war officer shoulder boards?

I though I have read that Mexican war officers shoulder boards had a white back ground? Red still Arty, Yellow cav and green dragoons?
There are now alot of great sources for this.

Anybody out there ever seen a copy??

    Thanks

Maybe it is just getting late but I am not sure what exactly you are asking. If it is where to get a quality copy of Mex war boards, NJ S***** has done a set recently and would make another set if asked, i'm sure.

Re: Mexican war officer shoulder boards?

I Guess Im getting good answers to a poorly asked question.

Were the officer shoulderboards the same base color (not the gold or silver braiding) for the Mexican War as in the civil war? I have read accounts of White base with silver/gold trim for infantry, and Green base for Dragoons, red for arty ect... Anyone know of reference to varify or explain?

The centers were dark blue. Per Brassey's History of Uniforms - The Mexican American War 1846-1848 "Rank was indicated on frocks by shoulder straps, with a silver embroidered edging around a dark blue background." (pg 35) It also states that "The infantry had silver borders, whilst other branches had gold borders, to their straps. (pg 24)

The sivler braiding must be the reference to the "white" Infantry shoulder boards. I was wondering how gold trim on a white board would look, didnt make sense.

              Thanks
