  • Canteen washers

Can anybody tell me how correct the rectangular washers with rounded edges are? Many sutlers claim to offer authentic canteens but they feature these washers. Are they correct? I know that square nuts are correct. Let me know.

Are you asking about the nuts that retain the loop and cork cap?

Yes the nut on the bottom of the cork assembly. I have seen originals that are square, and now one with the rounded sides. Does anybody else have any pictures of originals?

          Thanks, Garrison.

Here's a few. Most of 'em have two rounded ends, a few of them have little teeth formed from the ends to keep them from spinning, and one is the square shape you referred to. In this case, the square one was found on a specimen issued from Cincinnati.
