Euroarms vs. ArmiSport 1842

I'm in the process of finding me an 1842 for my early war impression. I have located a person with a Euroarms rifled '42 that he's had in a closet boxed up for years never fired and wants $600 for it. Sounds like a good deal to me but I can't find anything on the Euro's vs. the ArmiSports out there now. Would I be falling on a grenade to pick this up?

I have 1861 Springfield by EA. Considering EA is out of business 600 might be not bad.. However if its been in a box for years i would look at it closely. Craig Berry might give a better assessment.

Richard,

I was unaware that Euroarms ever produced a 1842 Springfield. Is your friend certain is a Euroarms produced musket (and not just in a Euroarms box?) I could be off about this but I have never heard of one in all my years or seen one for sale.

The Armi Sport (Armi Chiappa) 1842 Springfield is easily the most faithful reproduction musket the Italians have reproduced, and for what it is worth it would be hard to surpass them.

Actually I believe Dan is correct. I checked around a bit just now and Armi Sport are the ones who made the 1842. I cant a test to the quality of this company.. The new price for this gun was around $775 rifled and $695 smooth.

I wondered about the 'Euroarms" question myself since I couldn't find anything about them. The guy that I have been in contact with is several states away currently but said that when he gets back into town he'd send me pics. Perhaps it is a Sport. Sounds like he's a shooter and bought it thinking he'd reenact but never did.
