    Melville,

What is your source for that information? The info is interesting, but where did you get it?

      Re: AOT Muskets

      Jeff,
I've been following this thread with great interest since you started it as I have had a love affair of sorts with .69 smoothbore use in the Western Theater since a great friend helped me restore a M1816/22 back in the late 80's. However, you're going to face a problem building an impression around one particular weapon, rather than building an impression and adding the weapon to it. I feel your pain because when I acquire a weapon, from any period in history, I tend to fall in love with it and want to work outward from there as well.
If you are wanting to develop a good, solid AOT impression (and I applaud that!) you will be best served by using your .69 smoothbore, but also acquiring a .58/.577/.54 caliber weapon such as an Enfield or if you really want to scream AOT! obtain an Austrian. Work out from there and be prepared to carry either weapon for an event or program. Smoothbore use is just so spread out and spotty at this time that it will be hard for you to use just that one weapon. Long ago, and far away when I was very active, I had my M1816/22 and my P53 Enfield and four sets of leather gear. Between all of that, I pretty much had 90% of the AOT or Army of the Cumberland covered for my preferred period of '63-'64.

      Just my two kopecks,

        Just my two kopecks,
You are correct, I do need to pick up a rifle at some point, and I lean towards the lorenze as it is different and not well represented in the hobby (neither is the AoT for that matter). But for right now, I have a '42 and since thats what I have I am trying to find a unit that had them. Any unit in the AoT that had '42s during the Atlanta Campaign would work. Just trying to stay authentic in all respects. Regarding California not being so receptive of anything not in the movie Gettysburg, you are correct (earlier post). This is something I am going to do for me. Not trying to form a unit, just going to show up and present a new side of civil war history to the public, which is what this is all about anyways in my opinion. So again, if anyone has some information regarding units in the AoT with smoothbores circa 63-64 I would appriciate the help. Thanks all.

Oh, ok, gotcha now. I understand your situation much better at this point, and the circumstances you are operating under.
