  • Confederate Uniforms At The Battle of Chickamauga

I am seeking information on the uniforms worn by the 6th Texas Infantry and the 7th Texas Infantry at the Battle of Chickamauga. I am particularly interested in Company A (Waco Guards) of the 7th Texas Infantry. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The 6th and 7th may well have had different uniforms as they were in different brigades which came to Bragg's army in different ways from different places.

Has anyone read THE CIVIL WAR DIARY OF CHARLES A. LEUSCHNER - SIXTH TEXAS INFANTRY?

Hi Adam, interested in further details of the book you refer to - didn't find much information on the web - is it a fully and untouched contemporary account (my favourite)?

More than likely a CD jacket. The brigade (Greg's) and others in Johnston's army at Jackson recieved several thousand while in Mississippi. I have an original CD jacket issued to a Miss soldier most likely in the spring of 1863. BTW- I have researched the Smith/Granbury brigade in detail and have found evidence that the company may have not been called "the Waco Guards".

            Joe:

If Company A, 7th Texas Infantry may not have been called the Waco Guards, then who wore the 'WACO GUARDS' button attributed to them?

Could you please post a little more information about your CD jacket worn by a Mississippi soldier?

            Thank you.

BTW - For those who are interested Adam sent me a link to a short review of the Leuschner book:-

The Texas State Historical Association Quarterly Report includes "Papers read at the meetings of the Association, and such other contributions as may be accepted by the Committee" (volume 1, number 1). These include historical sketches, biographical material, personal accounts, and other research. Index is located at the end of the volume starting on page 651.

See the bottom of p616, it continues on the following page.

Regarding the "Waco Guards" button, I am writing an article for the Company of Military Historians Journal and will also post some coments on the AC when I do. It is my position based on original accounts that diggers and collectors made the assumption that Granbury's company was called the "Waco Guards" because buttons were found in some locations where they fought.

My CD jacket is the Jenkins jacket. You can find info on it by going to Geof Walden's article on CD jackets.

                  Thanks Joe.

Relic hunters have presumed things in the past which were incorrect and I look forward reading your article in the Journal of the Company of Military Historians.
