Not certain if this has been posted before, but I came across this today and found it fascinating. It is an article from early 1859 about a visit to the Enfield rifle factory and the processes that went into production of the P53 rifle-musket. The author's typical Victorian flowery prose begs the mental image of a visitor to the factory whose appearance must have starkly contrasted with the mechanics and gunsmiths around him!
Enjoy!
