  • Fascinating article on Enfield Production

Not certain if this has been posted before, but I came across this today and found it fascinating. It is an article from early 1859 about a visit to the Enfield rifle factory and the processes that went into production of the P53 rifle-musket. The author's typical Victorian flowery prose begs the mental image of a visitor to the factory whose appearance must have starkly contrasted with the mechanics and gunsmiths around him!

    Enjoy!

Dan: Thanks for posting that article. I wish they had detailed the method of finishing the stocks.

Just to mention it there was a similar magazine article (American Rifleman I think) about 20 years ago on "Making Muskets at Springfield" where the steps in making a M42 Springfield were given. Anybody remember that one?

I appreciate this is an old thread but the link at the top is to my web site. The article referred to is no longer to be found at that location.

You can now find it here: The Enfield Rifle
